Dr. Jay earned a B.A. with a double major in Biology and Theology from Ave Maria University in Naples, Florida, where he researched HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) inhibitors.  After college, he continued to work with virus (lentivirus) in the context of Alzheimer's disease for the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs. Food is Your FRIEND, Not Your Enemy

One of the biggest mindset mistakes I see people make when trying to lose weight is the restriction mindset.
 
They focus on what they WON'T eat. So those foods, usually their favorites, are now "bad" or “not allowed.” So the next time they inevitably eat them, THEY have now done something bad. Guilt and shame kick in, which causes an emotional spiral into eating all the other "bad" things, since they have already failed.
 
I have had this conversation with just about every client I've ever had. It's so common. When I had this mentality, I failed at weight loss over and over.
 
Everything changed when I changed my mindset from a restrictive mindset to an abundance mindset.
 
Nothing was off the table.
"I can eat anything I want" became a mental mantra I repeated any time I felt that mean old gatekeeper saying "don't eat that."
"I can eat anything I want," I reminded myself positively.
"I can go get a dozen cupcakes and eat them...

My Response to Jillian Michaels on Keto

I actually love that Jillian went the route of cellular health in her objection to the ketogenic diet.
 
Because cellular health is actually one of the main benefits of keto.
 
Jillian says, "Your cells, your macromolecules, are literally made up of protein, fat, carbohydrates, nucleic acids. When you do not eat one of those macronutrients, you're STARVING your cells."

Why I Think You Should Do Keto. But Not Forever.

If you've never done keto, I 100% think you should do it. Give it 2 months of solid commitment.
 
Why?
 
1. To teach your body how to easily tap into its own fat stores and USE that fat as fuel (um, yay!).
2. To see what your brain feels like on ketones.
3. To learn just how much anxiety all that sugar is creating.
4. To create a LASTING enhancement of your metabolism, even when you aren't keto anymore.
 
We are the first generation coming out of a decades-long brainwashed society that believed fat was bad for us. Every single one of us grew up being made to believe "Reduced Fat" or "Fat Free" on a box of cookies meant they were "healthier cookies." Ugh.
 
Now that we know better (and if you don't know better, read this and this and this), taking our bodies through a ketogenic phase will teach it how to use FAT as its primary fuel source- whether that's dietary fat or your own body fat.
